STOTT PILATES® VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS

 

Be Pilates New Zealand (NZ’s Licensed Training Centre for Merrithew – STOTT PILATES®/Total Barre®/Merrithew® Fascial Movement Education), offer both in-person + live online workshops.

 

The Workshops are open to EVERYONE who are wanting to start their Instructor journey (as no pre-reqs are required) or for those who are wanting a little taster of what STOTT PILATES® is all about.  They’re also perfect for current Instructors who want to up-skill, complete their professional development credits and expand their Pilates offering. The presentation workshop notes that you receive are an excellent guide for home Pilates workouts too!

These below Workshops will be presented from the STOTT PILATES® New Zealand National Merrithew Licensed Training Centre in the Hawke’s Bay to your bubble via a Zoom video link.  The virtual experience will be enhanced with state of the art technology and will remain a fun and non-intimidating means of keeping your mind and body engaged in learning while you have the time to give back to you!! If you are unable to meet the live zoom Workshop, please let us know and we will record a copy for you to view.

April 2025 Workshop Schedule

Wednesday 02 April 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Examinations Information Session | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom 2hr Workshop | 5.30pm-7.30pm | $185 including workshop notes & GST.

Exams can be intimidating, especially when you are unsure how to study and prepare. This information session helps to explain what materials to review and how to prepare for both written and practical portions of the STOTT PILATES® exams. This session provides a general overview of the exam and detailed structure of each portion of the exam. Participants will review which areas are tested for the written exam and what needs to be included in the practical exam.

  2. Understand the structure of STOTT PILATES Certification Examinations

  3. Learn what materials to review and how to study for the examination

May 2025 Workshop Schedule

Wednesday 14 May 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Flexion Free 2hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 12.30pm-2.30pm | $185 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

Fitness and Pilates Instructors meet a variety of clients who are restricted in their movements for a variety of reasons. Often, spinal flexion is contraindicated due to some specified concern. Learn how to modify Pilates exercises in a range of intensity levels to create workouts that achieve the primary goal of limiting spinal flexion while providing an effective full-body workout. Small handweights, Stability Cushions and the Flex-Band® exerciser are used to increase upper body resistance while further challenging the stability of the torso in a neutral alignment.

Learning objectives

  1. Discuss how the STOTT PILATES® Principles apply when movement is restricted

  2. Discover how to create a challenging workout without altering spinal alignment

  3. Learn to incorporate small handweights in a full flexion-free workout

  4. Explore exercise modifications in order to keep the workout safe

Sunday 18 May 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Ultimate Back Care 4hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 2.00pm-6.00pm | $345 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

Statistically, more than half of the adult population will experience lower back pain, either acute or ongoing, at some point in their lives. Mat-based Pilates exercises can be a valuable tool in the prevention and care of lower back problems. Developed by the Merrithew® programming team in keeping with current research, this workshop focuses on exercise modifications that can be beneficial in a number of circumstances. Major focus is placed on creating awareness and endurance of the local stabilizers of the lumbar spine and pelvic region. Although individual injuries are not covered, generalizations for specific exercise prescriptions are reviewed as a foundation for program development. Exercise choices for the prevention of back injuries and scope of practice concerns are also discussed.

Learning objectives

  1. Learn why and how STOTT PILATES® exercise can be beneficial for back problems

  2. Understand the STOTT PILATES Principles of stabilization and how they relate to back problems

Wednesday 21 May 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Pre-Natal on the Mat 2hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 12.30pm-2.30pm | $185 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

This interactive seminar, developed by the Merrithew® team, draws upon the most current medical information, exercise guidelines and research available on pregnancy and movement. Appropriate STOTT PILATES® Matwork exercise adaptations are explored and programming concepts for teaching small groups and private clients are discussed. Anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations are also discussed with an eye to providing a safe and effective workout throughout all trimesters and provide strategies for building new pre-natal programs as well as enhancing those already in progress.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand appropriateness of STOTT PILATES Matwork as well as possible contraindications during pregnancy

  2. Learn about physiological changes throughout all three trimesters

  3. Explore specific exercise modifications on the Mat

Wednesday 28 May 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Post-Natal Pilates 2hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 12.30pm-2.30pm | $185 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

Most women are able to return to exercise four to six weeks after a regular birth or when they get clearance from their physician. Many of the exercises performed during the second and third trimester of pregnancy will be suitable now, but other exercises can be added to focus on reactivating and stabilizing the pelvic floor, transversus abdominis and obliques as well as developing lumbo-pelvic stability. This gentle but effective workout, developed by the Merrithew® team, incorporates Toning Balls™ to get new moms back on the right track.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply the STOTT PILATES Principles to exercises specific to the post-natal client

  2. Discover how to modify for the needs of this special population

  3. Understand how to incorporate Toning Balls in a post-natal workout

  4. Discuss special considerations for post-natal concerns

Wednesday 04 June 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Beyond the Biomechanical Principles 3hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 11.30am-2.30pm | $245 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

The STOTT PILATES Principles form the foundation of the STOTT PILATES Movement System and provide the initial framework for programming. These concepts, when applied appropriately and strategically, will facilitate awareness and ensure optimal alignment as well as appropriate engagement of required muscles in clients. For the instructor, these Principles act as a reference tool that can be continually utilized when systematically evaluating and correcting static and dynamic alignment through any and all movement sequences. In each case, we'll examine what the Principle is, why it is important within a programming context, and how we can use movement to reinforce and integrate it into the system as a whole. This workshop, created by the Merrithew programming team, presents the Principles and shows how they are related to movement patterns crucial to optimal function and discusses their application to any type of activity as a platform for instructors at any level.

Learning objectives

  1. Discover how the STOTT PILATES Principles form the foundation for any type of movement programming.

  2. Experience movements that illustrate the what, why and how of each Principle.

  3. Learn how the individual Principles support and facilitate movement patterns crucial for functional activity for all clients.

Wednesday 11 June 2025 | STOTT PILATES® Postural Analysis Review 2hr Workshop | Live Online

Live Online via Zoom | 12.30pm-2.30pm | $185 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

This hands-on workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team, outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Discuss the differences between static and dynamic posture and consider how each affects exercise choices and modifications necessary. Review postural theory relating to the effect of certain postures on muscle length and strength and actively practice postural analysis.

Learning objectives

  1. Review the steps in conducting a formal postural analysis

  2. Learn how to identify muscular imbalances as they relate to faulty posture

  3. Practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures

  4. Understand how postural issues play into exercise programming

Saturday 23 August 2025 | STOTT PILATES® The Knee: Reformer Programming for Stability & Function 2hr Workshop | In-person @ Christchurch Welder Urban Oasis

Be Pilates @ Christchurch, Welder Urban Oasis | 9.00am-11.00am | $185 including comprehensive workshop notes & GST.

The knee is a complex structure that can experience any number of injuries or conditions that interrupt normal functioning. This lecture/demo-style workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team, begins by exploring the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal, healthy functioning of the knee, followed by a discussion of some of the more common dysfunctions caused by injury or disease. Lastly, learn a variety of exercise progressions using the Pilates Reformer and accessories designed to be implemented in a post-rehabilitative setting to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning. Designed to prepare the body for specific activities and enhance performance, these exercises can challenge and promote optimal functioning.

Learning objectives

The lumbo-pelvic region is an area of concern for a large number of clients. In this lecture/demo-style workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team, explore how the Reformer can be an integral tool in a post-rehab setting. After reviewing the anatomy, biomechanics and optimal functioning of the lumbar spine, pelvis, hip and surrounding musculature, discuss some of the more common injuries and conditions that can occur and the resulting dysfunction. Then, learn a wide variety of exercise options utilizing the Reformer and many of its accessories and how to identify better movement patterns and muscular activation. Explore how modifications can provide ideal programming choices for various stages of healing and functional reintegration.

The shoulder girdle is a complex structure that is subjected to stresses in everyday life and even more stress during extreme activities. In this lecture/demo-style workshop developed by the Merrithew® team, discover how Pilates programming on the Reformer can be ideal in a post-rehabilitative setting. First, explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal, healthy functioning of the shoulder girdle, then, discuss common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns that can result from injury or strain. Finally, learn how specially selected exercises on the Reformer can address these issues by creating awareness, stability and strength. Exercises are layered to restore functional mobility, then progress to work-hardening activities and performance enhancement.

Learn the benefits of taking moms-to-be from traditional Matwork variations to select exercise modifications on the Reformer in this workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team. Using current exercise guidelines provided by the ACOG and bearing in mind common anatomical and physiological changes, appropriate STOTT PILATES® exercise adaptations are explored using the Reformer in innovative and beneficial ways. Workout safety and effectiveness remain paramount and the client’s risk factors, pre-pregnancy fitness level, health concerns and fitness goals are to be taken in to account when creating new and ongoing programs.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply the STOTT PILATES Principles to specific exercises on the Reformer

  2. Understand movement essence and exercise goals for the prenatal client

  3. Explore how exercise choices are made for the prenatal client and what modifications may need to be incorporated

There is no pre-requisites to attend these workshops, all participants are welcome!

CECs:

Full Merrithew continued education credits will be offered for STOTT PILATES® workshops.  Excellent method of receiving your yearly professional development credits, without additional travel expenses.  All training will be registered with Merrithew® and a letter of completion will be sent to you directly from Merrithew® Head Office.  In order to receive full credit of participation, students must complete and physically participate in the full online workshop and adhere to the Merrithew® policies & procedures.

Equipment & Workshop Notes

For online training, students must have the correct props in order to take the workshop, (e.g. have a Flex-Band to attend the Flex-Band workshop). 

Props will be supplied for in-person training.

We will send you exclusive digital PDF workshop notes prior to the workshop starting for online training. In-person training will offer printed workshop notes at the start of each workshop.
